There's a triple whammy when it comes to listing the Saiyuki characters that appear in a doujinshi. First, names are being spelled here in romaji rather than kana. I romanize using modified Hepburn, so keep in mind that "ou" is pronounced as a long "oh" sound, not like two-thirds of the English word "you."I am grudgingly using the "official" roman spellings--the weird-ass result of an inconsistent mixture of romanization systems--of the names of the Sanzo-ikkou's members: Sanzo (Sanzou in modified Hepburn), Goku (Gokuu), Gojyo (Gojou) and Hakkai. (Similarly--and again with gritted teeth--I am using the "official" roman spellings of the titles Saiyuki [Saiyuuki in modified Hepburn] and Gensomaden Saiyuki [Gensoumaden Saiyuuki].)
The next bit of trickiness comes with the territory: Saiyuki has a slew of characters who are reincarnated souls, and/or have taken more than one name in the course of one lifetime. The listing of a doujinshi's characters gives the name the character is known by when that particular story takes place.
And finally, there are elements in the story that affect a character's appearance--including the point of time at which the story takes place, and whether the character is in a physical form we don't typically see (has Hakkai gone youkai? Is this a story from Gojyo's childhood? Has Sanzo sprouted cat ears and a tail? Did Goku pop the diadem and reveal that, uh, Seiten Taisei Son Goku was a she all along?). I've tried to note a character's unusual age or physical form.
So, for the sake of reference (and trivia!), here's how characters are listed in this site's doujinshi notes:
Kenren / young Gojyo / Gojyo
